Learning to fix your own e-bike

Learning to fix your own e-bike can be enjoyable, liberating and save you money. While there are undoubtedly some risks involved in fixing a road going vehicle by yourself, there are also some safety advantages to knowing the ins and outs of your own e-bike.

While we may well run courses one day, the reality is that the business of fixing e-bikes is not the same as the business of teaching others how to fix e-bikes.

Fortunately, in Auckland you have options such as the community Bike Hubs where you can practice learning to fix your own bike. You'll receive help and the level of experience of that help will vary quite a lot.

For a gold plated experience, we heartily recommend the Bike Professor, aka Rene Van Rijn of the NZ Bicycle Training Academy. Rene has worked in the bike industry for longer than I've been alive and has spent the better part of that training people to fix bikes (including myself in 2016). Rene offers a one day course for 'consumer enthusiasts' from his home workshop in Blockhouse Bay for a reasonable fee (and with lunch included!).

The best part - you can bring your own e-bike and learn on it. You can do this alone or in groups of up to 5. We receive glowing feedback from our customers who have taken the time to do this course. It is ideal for anyone who wants to know their own bike more, particularly if you'd like to stay in control during a mechanical breakdown off on a riding adventure somewhere!

There is more information on Rene's website about the Consumer Enthusiast one day course. However, that is very much a 'static website' and Rene is a busy guy, so it is useful to refer to his Facebook Page to see the latest course dates and offerings. You can make an enquiry directly to Rene by clicking on the link:
