Collection: Angle Grinder Resistant Bike Locks

Unfortunately the bike thieves in Auckland and elsewhere in New Zealand are often using cordless angle grinders to steal electric bicycles, including in broad daylight in busy areas. A number of our customers have lost their beloved ebikes in such circumstances.

There's more at stake than our precious e-bikes! Our very ability to use e-bikes to get around our daily business in Auckland is under threat. Even if you have insurance for your e-bike, you'll soon stop locking it up in public if you suffer a theft or two.

Angle grinder resistant locks are generally designed to consume the grinder discs so that a thief would have to change their blade multiple times over a prolonged period before they could take your e-bike. Thieves who use angle grinders in public are often trading on intimidation - it's easy to menace the public when you're holding a dangerous power tool with sparks flying. Carefully changing the grinding disc on a hot tool in between bursts of adrenaline isn't part of the plan.

The reality is that when you use these locks, the weakest link is likely whatever you have locked your bike to - the thief might cut the bike rack instead. Therefore, for the highest possible security, we would recommend combining a grinder resistant lock with a wheel lock (very fiddly to grind off) so that the thief cannot ride away even after cutting a bike rack. And some 'soft security' like a tracker/alarm make the most sense when your lock is strong, so that you have a chance to take action while they're still working on your lock.
